Atotech Adds New Executive Sales Positions to its Operations at UAlbany NanoCollege

Less than a year after launching a $5 million research and development ("R&D;") program at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering ("CNSE") of the University at Albany, global technology leader Atotech will locate newly-created executive positions overseeing worldwide and U.S. sales at its growing operation at CNSE's Albany NanoTech Complex.

The new positions reflect the success of Atotech's initial research activities at the UAlbany NanoCollege, which are demonstrating critical advances in copper plating process technologies while progressing ahead of schedule. In addition, Atotech also expects to hire several new researchers to support its program, which is designed to enable the development of innovative copper-wiring technologies and 3D-integration solutions for use in advanced nanoelectronics device structures, including computer chips, chemical and biological sensors for the health and energy industries, and biochips for medical applications.

A world leader in the development and manufacture of chemistry applications for the nanoelectronics industry, Atotech is headquartered in Berlin, Germany and has more than 3,300 employees in 36 countries around the world. Atotech is providing international support for its research program at CNSE through its operations in Berlin and Yokohama, Japan, and also funding fellowships to support graduate students at CNSE.

Robert Preisser, Vice President of Semiconductor Technology for Atotech, said, "The UAlbany NanoCollege is the perfect place to locate Atotech's global and U.S. sales executives, based on the success of our collaboration with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, which includes access to unparalleled intellectual and physical resources and a growing number of global nanoelectronics companies at CNSE's Albany NanoTech. We look forward to further building the Atotech-CNSE partnership, which is accelerating commercialization of our innovative technologies and providing new opportunities for Atotech to compete in the global marketplace."

Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of CNSE, said, "We are delighted to expand and strengthen our partnership with Atotech, a world-class corporate leader in computer chip processing technologies, under the leadership of Mr. Robert Preisser. We welcome Atotech's decision to create and locate its new national and international executive sales positions at the UAlbany NanoCollege, which is further demonstration that Albany and New York State are desired locations for the world's leading nanoelectronics companies, a result of the vision and leadership of Governor Paterson and Assembly Speaker Silver in building a vibrant nanotechnology-fueled economy. Continued growth at the NanoCollege, as evidenced by Atotech, is creating new career and economic opportunities for people and businesses across the state, while enhancing New York's global competitiveness in the 21st century innovation economy."

The next phase of Atotech's research activities at CNSE involves optimization of copper-plating chemistries for further decreasing device structure size, evaluation of new molecules and modes of operation, and enhancement of environmental protections prior to introducing those advances on a global basis.

A global leader in the field of metallization technologies and chemistries, Atotech has more than 3,000 employees that support the integration and use of metallization chemicals in general metal finishing (GMF), electronics and semiconductors. Sixteen production and service facilities in the different countries assure a close customer support and short turnaround time. For more information, visit http://www.atotech.com/.

The UAlbany CNSE is the first college in the world dedicated to research, development, education, and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience, and nanoeconomics. In May 2007, it was ranked as the world's number one college for nanotechnology and microtechnology in the Annual College Ranking by Small Times magazine. CNSE's Albany NanoTech complex is the most advanced research enterprise of its kind at any university in the world: a $4.5 billion, 450,000-square-foot complex that attracts corporate partners from around the world and offers students a one-of-a-kind academic experience. The UAlbany NanoCollege houses the only fully-integrated, 300mm wafer, computer chip pilot prototyping and demonstration line within 65,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanrooms. More than 2,000 scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and faculty work on site at CNSE's Albany NanoTech complex, from companies including IBM, AMD, SEMATECH, Toshiba, ASML, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, Vistec Lithography and Freescale. An expansion currently underway will increase the size of CNSE's Albany NanoTech complex to over 800,000 square feet, including over 80,000 square feet of Class 1 capable cleanroom space, to house over 2,500 scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and faculty by mid-2009.
