Technologies with the power to transform industries and create new markets form the central theme of this year’s annual Emerging Technologies Conference at MIT, organized by Technology Review magazine. The conference takes place on September 27th and 28th on MIT’s campus.
The conference explores the transformative power of innovation in areas like energy, communications, nanotechnology, and the Internet. Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.com; Jonathan Miller, CEO of AOL; Roger McNamee, founder of Elevation Partners; Padmasree Warrior, chief technology officer of Motorola; and George M. Whitesides of Harvard University are among the speakers.
“The Emerging Technologies Conference is an important event that explores how innovations make their way from the lab to the marketplace, as well as the ways these technologies will influence society for years to come,” says Jason Pontin, Technology Review magazine’s Editor in Chief.
The TRETC also gathers the winners of the 2006 TR35, the magazine’s selection of 35 innovators under the age of 35. The TR35 are the topic of the cover story in the September/October issue of Technology Review.
On hand to accept the awards for Innovator of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year—selected from the TR35—are respectively Joshua Schacter, creator of del.icio.us, the social bookmarking site that popularized tagging, and Christina Galitsky of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who is pioneering simple solutions to problems affecting people in Sudan and Bangladesh.
In addition to the popular Innovator’s View discussion, moderated by Ms. Warrior, a number of critical technology topics will be explored in panel discussions, including:
